Flowers can be found in anywhere in nature, and are really nice to look at. Do you ever wonder why some flowers will make spirals like the one above?<\/span><\/p>\n

The seeds of a flower can twist when they grow. For example, if the seeds twist every 1 turn, they will grow in a line. If the seeds twist every $\\frac{1}{2}$ turn, they will grown in 2 lines:<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe spiral shape that a flower makes comes from a value called the Golden Ratio, which is approximately 0.618. This means that there is 0.618 twists between each seed, which allows the seeds to compact in the most efficient way.<\/span><\/p>\n

No other values besides the Golden Ratio will create a circular spiral shape. This is because the Golden Ratio is an irrational number, meaning that it can\u2019t be written as a fraction.<\/span><\/p>\n

You might ask, do other irrational numbers like \ud835\udf0b or e create this circular spiral too? The answer is no. The decimals of \ud835\udf0b and e are very close to fractions ($\\frac{1}{7} = 0.1429\u2026$, $\\frac{5}{7} = 0.7143\u2026$). The Golden Ratio is not a simple fraction like \ud835\udf0b or e.<\/span><\/p>\n

The equation of the Golden Ratio is : \"\". Because the fraction goes on infinitely, a flower can create a perfect spiral.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Golden Ratio is not only found in flower seeds. It can also be found in pinecones, sea shells, flower petals, hurricanes, and even galaxies, as seen below:<\/span><\/p>\n
