Here is what each coefficient does to the parabola:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> makes the parabola wider or thinner<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">c<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> moves the parabola up or down (along the y axis), without changing the shape<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">b<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a little more complicated. As the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">b<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> coefficient changes, the shape of the parabola stays the same. Unlike <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">c<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, however, the parabola doesn\u2019t move up and down, or left and right either. Instead, it traces the path of another separate parabola. This may be confusing, so you can watch the video below. The answer is yes. In fact, if you throw <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">any<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> object forward, ideally, it will travel in the shape of a parabola.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Now you know what a parabola is, and what each of the coefficients in the equation do.
